"wow,it stunned me.did that Director take a sneak peek into my life?!!!" quipped my friend when i told her i watched the movie.Surely ,it did touch certain chords in my heart too.But then this is the story of hundreds of Indian women, treated as doormats, their time and talent wasted to satiate one mans ego...oh,my..before i get carried away.i enjoyed the film to the hilt...After some hard to laugh comedy movies with some usual comedians trying hard to keep their comic mantles straight , this one was a refresher.Akku Akbar has done his homework thoroughly. the movie is serious with a social message, but at the same time a light hearted family entertainer.
All the characters have a purpose..Even Suraj Venjaramoodu has some substantial message to convey.Gopika is a wonder.her character is not fully the docile ,shy and modest wife that an indian wife is supposed to be.In an interview the Director was heard saying that she surpassed all his expectations and initial apprehensions about her with her controlled yet powerful acting. There are times when her character with her sharp satirical retorts sets her husband straight.she goes on with her duties as she has no other go,till the breaking point. Then we see her as the modern woman , strength personified and not the hapless victim till then.
Men are sometimes impractical.here the father, just to appease his teenaged daughter, gets her the mobile phone she had clamoured for. There the director subtely conveys the evils of mobile phones when given in the wrong hands.he has exaggerated a bit from then on with the father rescuing the daughter from the demon like pursuers etc .his reactions and mental conflicts are best portayed in the dream sequences where his fears take human forms and attacks the daughter. These are excellent scenes, and the director should have stopped at that. But he drags on for some more time till the father goes complete nuts and inadvertently hurts his own daughter.
The ending too did leave a bad taste in my mouth as the complete blame is put on the wife for having left the house in the sole care of the husband. What are husbands for, just to say "where is my cup of tea, where is my ironed clothes" when the wife is running a marathon to finish her chores. And when the woman is ready to fall on the bed at the end of a gruelling day ,tired and worn out, there he is waiting to fulfill his sexual desires.I loathe such husbands. The wife suppresses her creative talents, trying to adjust to the riogours of life, financial strains etc while the husband has his own way ,drinking alcohol with his pals or fighting for some absurd cause!!!!! And many a times wives keep quiet as they have the kids and the ubiquitous family honour to take care of.Men exploit this ...and let me stop otherwise i will write pages on this..
