And the tragedy is what follows

Hell was let loose in Mumbai last week taking away hundreds of life and causing destructions to iconic landmarks.Bereaving families can never be consoled . But what irks is the devastating effects of mud slinging and political drama that followed. What difference does it make now that a few politicians have resigned, the damage has been done. This was someting that could have been thwarted in the first place.ATS and other security personnels were busy covering the politicians in the impending elections in Gujarat and Rajastan that the IB tip off and alerts went unnoticed. Lapses are many. And the media is making the scenario murkier by blowing out of proportions each and every happening. In between happened some amusing incidents like the Kerala CM being shooed off ,rightly so, by the martyrs father.Given the circumstances the Father is not wrong.'Whats is the big deal' in such after disaster high profile visits which causes further trouble to the inconsolable family. He only did wh

Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan on stage at Aviation Club,Dubai

Image
"Hey ,would you like to come for the Udit Narayan show in Aviation club"..the phone call from my dearest friend was so unexpected .Udit...ofcourse i couldnt miss him .And then followed a mad rush of getting ready and running to be there on time .At the venue ,again ,unexpectedly i learned that Alka Yagnik is performing..How come such big stars were ascending and there were no prior ads in the media?? But the show, as if its mandatory, started late and with the compere blaming it all on the traffic."Hold on,We didnt see any traffic congestion" my friend quipped.Crowd was also getting restless when Deepa Narayan made the 'shubharambh " with "Vakrathunda mahakaya". Alka Yagniks cheerful and vivacious presence soon ushered in a mood of festivity. It was as if the stage was a second home to her.She exudes confidence and charm in all her actions and words."Tumhi Dekho Na" , "Laal Dupatta","Tauba"... oh, the melodies were end

dubai dreams

every time I see the 2 big white balloons advertising the very presence of Naif souq in deira,i try to put in a word with my favourite God to please let the shoppers In DubaI take the cue and make them visit the souq. The fire in the old naif souq had wiped out not only a landmark but also the livelihood of multitudes who had left behind everything to toil it out in an unknown land. The months of agonising wait had finally found results in the new Naif Souq hitherto erected on temperory grounds. But the crowds which used to throng the old souq is missing here. The shops are filled with all the usual goodies .clothes and accessories in fact are beng sold at a much cheaper price. One of the shopkeepers lamented that their condition is slowly worsening as they had to again put in money to get the merchandise to replace the lost one.Ramadan is over and still no signs of business catching up. So wake up Dubai..come and see the new Naif Souq, now cleaner ,bigger , cheaper and easily access

Blast 'em off...

Yet another blast and its casualities made the headlines in this weeks newspapers..the perpetrators still at large or taken into custody etc will continue to haunt us every time we open the newspapers for days to come.S Such heinous acts of violence ofcourse has to be condemned, but what irritates me is the graphic presentations and the dramatic interpretations of the whole event in some leading news channels and newspapers. Its as if they were waiting for such a tragedy to happen to fill their columns and airtime with hearsays and actualities..Two days ago news channels were agonisingly focusing on the lamenting mother whose 9 year old son perished in the bomb blast.will it melt the already petrified hearts of those behind the hideous crime? NEVER..instead they will double up their celebrations thoroughly enjoying the magnitude of devastaion ...one channel was showing the iron nails added in the crude bombs to increase the impact.it had ripped apart a wooden door almost 20 meters

veruthe oru barya

"wow,it stunned me.did that Director take a sneak peek into my life?!!!" quipped my friend when i told her i watched the movie.Surely ,it did touch certain chords in my heart too.But then this is the story of hundreds of Indian women, treated as doormats, their time and talent wasted to satiate one mans ego...oh,my..before i get carried away.i enjoyed the film to the hilt...After some hard to laugh comedy movies with some usual comedians trying hard to keep their comic mantles straight , this one was a refresher.Akku Akbar has done his homework thoroughly. the movie is serious with a social message, but at the same time a light hearted family entertainer. All the characters have a purpose..Even Suraj Venjaramoodu has some substantial message to convey.Gopika is a wonder.her character is not fully the docile ,shy and modest wife that an indian wife is supposed to be.In an interview the Director was heard saying that she surpassed all his expectations and initial apprehensions

Tanjore "style " painting

Image
Another experiment..Agreed that the traditional Tanjore paintings are awe inspiring with their detailing and delicate stone and foil work. Here is something done on the same line ,but minus the expensive gold foils and also the ceramic relief work. The richness of a Tanjore painting is obviously missing. But i am happy the end product is appealing to the eyes. The relief work has been replaced by fevicryl '3d' paints and glass liners.Since the canvass was not absorbing the water colour , oil paints have been used.So i should call it a mixed media work as i have used fabric paintings too to facilitate quick drying. what makes the painitng precious is the sparkle i had seen in Radhikas eyes as i presented it to her.She is such a nice soul.Hubby dear ,who is my best critic also gave me a good 70 percent for this.Guess i am improving in my art.Next on my anvil is more Gods!!!

charcoal renditions

Image
Working with charcoal is immensely satisfying ,more so as its my first experience. The glossy effect of graphite is missing but then i do not have to worry about the direction of light, falling on the finished product if i decide to hang it. Here i am starting on a series of mother n child drawings....Inspiration, who else my mother who always wanted me to draw babies .She is my pillar of strength..and so i have mothers too in my wo rks with their all encompassing love and affection. They are Gods best gift to mankind...

Graphite or charcoal pencils?

graphite pencils or charcoals I graduated myself from the graphite to the charcoal pencils..without really thinking about the nuances..The shiny eyes and shadows that reflect and stands out from the main picture has been replaced by more realistic strokes.May be graphite can be mixed n used to draw reflective surfaces like glass or pottery. compressed charcoal sticks are ideal to cover larger surfaces and where dark intonations are necessaary.they like the pencils can be sharpened and also blended. Coming to blending ,till now i had used tissue paper and paper stumps i made myself. But the Derwent Pencil set ( 19 dhms) had a pencil stump which is strong and pointed .so gradations in textures have become smoother and softer.I have learned that felt paper can also create interesting textures.Using both on one picture can be handy ,for example in places like hair falling on the face and creating a shadow .the colour value or shade may be the same, dark. So to show the variation hair can b

pencil drawings

Graphite ,pencils or charcoals..they are the best way to master the play of shadows on canvas or paper. Moreover you have the liberty to erase and redraw which is not possible in water colour or oil pastels.Yes, to an extent may be in oil paintings..here are some of my pencil drawings. All are reproductions of photos seen in newspape rs and magazines..
